Personality: A former european empire, Austria is a young master type who strives to embody the refinement, elegance and grace of a world power. However since his days of prominence are long since past him, he prefers to devote his time and passion into his hobbies and interests. As for everything else? He’s sure it will all sort itself out in it’s own time when he gets to it… or Germany will simply take care of it for him.
Austria relies heavily on others for nearly everything in his life and has done so since his inception as a nation. When he was younger he relied on his friendship with Switzerland to survive. Young Austria was a nation ill-suited for the tremulous and violent times of young Europe and unskilled when it came to fighting. Living with Switzerland as friends, Austria felt safe and comfortable. It was more desirable to him to be in a relationship with someone else than to try to fend off every one on his own as an individual.
Because of this Austria got into the habit of seeking out other nations with strengths he himself did not possess and forming unions with them. This strategy worked out very well for him and he was able to climb to prominence as one of the great empires of Europe. This was particularly true in his marriages to Spain and later to Hungary. However, Austria is no longer a world power and his marriages have been dissolved. Now he spends his time living in Germany’s shadow and struggling to be relevant in modern times.
Austria doesn’t seem to mind this much, however. While he’s sentimental for the days when he was a world power he tends to take advantage of the new freedom irrelevance has given him in regards to his hobbies. Everything else that falls outside those interests however, he struggles with immensely. Home to “the music capital of the world” Austria has always been passionate about music. He’s partial to piano and violin and can play any instrument masterfully. He’s also very interested in other aspects of the arts and is very artistic himself. This extends from arts and crafts to also baking. Austria is a skilled baker and considers cake an actual hobby of his.

However, if anyone spends enough time with him in any capacity his attempts at concealing them grow less effective. When Spain asked for Austria’s help to fold flowers so he could sell them en masse to make a bit of extra money, Austria spent hours crafting a single beautiful paper rose for Spain. Thrift: Austria values spending his money wisely and not being wasteful. In his free time he will sew patches into old clothes to spare himself from having to buy new ones. He will also clip coupons so he can afford higher quality ingredient and items.
Photogenic: Austria is physically incapable of taking a bad picture. He's also very handsome in general-- but he doesn't seem to think so himself.

However, as a germanic nation, when Austria becomes upset his first inclination is getting angry. When in the comfort of his own home Austria wears run down underwear he patched up himself and likes clipping coupons. When out in the presence of others Austria dresses very well and shops for expensive and fine ingredients (discretely using coupons). His carefully crafted image is important to him and he gets upset when someone is able to see through it and see the less savory qualities of his personality.

No Sense of Direction: Austria has no sense of direction and frequently gets lost. So much so that he actually plans for getting lost when he goes on outings. His sense of direction is so bad that he struggles to even find the telephone in Germany’s house in the next room, even though he himself had lived there for a period of time and frequently visits with Germany.
Guilt: Austria has lived a very long time as a nation and as such there are many things he has come to regret about his past. Most of these things he realizes he can never make up for or can never be rectified. An example of this is his relationship with Germany, who was formerly the Holy Roman Empire. Austria feels as though he failed HRE/Germany and is responsible for HRE’s demise and Germany being unable to remember his youth as HRE. Austria has resigned himself to this failure and other failures in his life and carries around his guilt for his part without any aspirations for resolution or forgiveness.

[Austria has never in the entirety of his very long life, ever held a paint ball gun. He has no interest in being caught up in something as ridiculous as a paint ball war, but-- he’s also seen the way people are just collapsing where they stand after being hit by them. He regards the gun with a disdainful glare and a frown.
It’s not exactly how he pictured his life ending. Austria slides up against a nearby wall immediately. He’s sure it will be his backside. Somehow it was always his backside. There’s just something innately demeaning about the idea of him taking a paintball shot to his backside and then him just laying there. Forever. With a big blob of paint on his ass. Austria frowns at the gun.
If Switzerland found out this is how he met his demise, it would probably be the first smile Austria would have inspired in him in centuries. His frown deepens even more. Keeping his back to the wall, Austria uses his foot to move the gun closer so he can pick it up and start wielding it.
He’s never been skilled in this respect but, he must have forgotten more about weapons than most people here have learned. He doesn’t even actually need to shoot any one! It’s just precautionary. A good offense is the best defense-- although in Austria’s case he generally married the good offense!
With an exasperated sigh, Austria squats awkwardly to grab at the rifle. The gun feels foreign in his hands which had grown more accustomed to holding instruments and
whisks at this point in his life--Oh!! Austria’s legs wobble as he tries to straighten up from the unfamiliar squatting position, fumbling with the gun. He grabs for it afraid of it going off if he drops it, a poorly place finger snapping tightly against the trigger.
Austria can feel the welt of pain slam against the top of his foot. It takes a second for it all to register-- he shot himself-- but he doesn’t have to live with his mortification for long. A moment later Austria’s passed out cold.
At least this time he didn’t get shot in the ass though.]
